Exploring the surroundings of Porto

If you arrive earlier than the time of arrival, we suggest you check in at the information desk and leave your belongings in the luggage room and go to the surrounding area to meet your first impressions.

The first stop is a clean and pleasant beach on the banks of the Douro River. This river is one of the largest in Portugal, the upper reaches of the river are home to the Alto Douro wine region, which has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. At the beach of this landmark you can enjoy a pleasant walk along the Douro River or take a swim, weather and desire permitting.

Dine at A Ramadinha, a traditional Portuguese barbecue restaurant serving a full range of dishes, including national fish and meat. The average menu price for each dish is 10 euros.

As you drive across this road bridge, take note of the beautiful scenery that stretches along both banks of the Douro River. There is nothing remarkable about the bridge, but it is a great vantage point. It was built relatively recently, in 1995, to relieve traffic and is the most easterly of all the bridges across the river linking Porto to Vila Nova di Gaia.

The chapel of São Pedro de Rubian is located on the banks of the Douro River. It is surrounded by a low fence that allows you to see the chapel even if it is closed. It is worth a visit anyway, because the hill on which it stands offers a wonderful view of the city.

Back a little early on the first night, unpack, rest and prepare for the next busy day in town.
