The sights of Sergiev Posad

You can start the day in one of Dmitrov's small but cozy cafes called Karamel. The atmosphere here is simple, but at the same time cozy. As you can guess from the name, the menu offers a variety of desserts, many of which are prepared according to their own recipes.

One of the most significant sights in this region is the Dmitrov Kremlin. According to historians, its construction began in the XII century. At the entrance there is a monument to Yury Dolgoruky. Today the Dmitrov Kremlin includes about nine halls with various expositions devoted to the history and culture of these places.

Perhaps the most famous architectural monument in the Moscow region and at the same time the religious center of Russia is the Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra. On a rather large territory there are several temples, museums, as well as small souvenir shops and cafes. The pilgrimage center organizes various sightseeing excursions around the territory.

If you don't like lunch at the monastery refectories, you should go to one of the restaurants of Sergiev Posad called Brynza. Here, traditional national and Middle Eastern cuisine is served in a home-like and hospitable atmosphere. Local khachapuri as well as baked sausages with potatoes and a variety of salads are worth a taste.

Another important cultural attraction of Sergiev Posad is the Toy Museum, founded in the early twentieth century by collector N. Bartram.
Today the extensive collection of the museum includes about 150 000 different works, about 800 exhibits of XI-XXI centuries. By the way, not all exhibits were used for children's amusement, it is believed that some of the toys were used by pagans for various rites and worship.
