    Boston to Woodstock

It’s a long trip to reach the White Mountains, but you can break up the journey with a winding drive around New Hampshire’s Lakes Region. Plan to drive the stunning Kancamagus Highway in the late afternoon light before settling into Woodstock for the evening.

    Abenaki Tower

You can’t drive through the Lakes Region without stopping to enjoy a bit of the lakeside scenery. The wooden Abenaki Tower is a former fire tower along the banks of Lake Winnipesaukee. A quick climb to the top of the tower rewards visitors with expansive views of the lake crowned by mountains in the distance.

    Castle in the Clouds

For a one-of-a-kind lunch experience, visit the Carriage House Restaurant at Castle in the Clouds. This terrace overlooking Lake Winnipesaukee delivers great views and classic American lunch items with a fun flair. Too chilly for the terrace? There is also seating inside the castle’s historic horse stalls. In a hurry? Grab a wrap or a salad at Café in the Clouds, the castle’s quicker option bordering the Meadows by Shannon Pond.
Castle in the Clouds may not be open during inclement weather. The 2022 season begins May 28.
