Original architecture and traditional Urals crafts

In the morning we enjoy the services of the hotel, and then go to the town of Nevyansk, one of the oldest cities in the Urals. Having admired the inclined tower, we drive to the ancient Old Believers' village Byngi with a very unusual church. Then we will attend a master class on making traditional Tavolga ceramics. On the way back we will stop at the "Nevyansk Icon House" with the most valuable collections of Old Believers' icons.

Park next to the main attraction of Nevyansk - the leaning tower. It was built in 1721-1725 by order of Akinfy Demidov, the founder of the mining industry in the Urals.
So why is the tower leaning sideways, like the Pisa legend? Experts are still in doubts: whether it is a specific idea of the architect, or a mistake during construction. Or groundwater is to blame.
Once upon a time, the 57-meter high structure served as a bell tower, a factory archive, a laboratory, and even a prison. On the tower is still a working clock, bought in England for the fabulous 5 thousand gold rubles.
Please note, the tower is open Tuesday through Sunday.

The next destination is the Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in the village of Byngi. The church itself is very beautiful, and with curious peculiarities. Not only for the Urals, but for Russia as a whole, it is very rare for a church bell tower to have chimes. The clock is not running now, but they say that the clock mechanism is in good working order.

We return to Nevyansk to visit one last important attraction - the Museum "House of Nevyansk Icons". The private museum, which has been in existence for more than 20 years, features more than 700 icons from the 18th-20th centuries. Among them there are not so many of the Nevyansk Old Believers' creations.
The fact is that Old Believer icon painters had a difficult life: during the persecution, they had to write in secret. So each icon is considered a precious treasure.
Nevyansk icons are geographical: the masters were not afraid to paint real architecture and real landscapes. "Nevyansk hills - you can't confuse them with anything else," says museum founder Evgeny Roizman.
