Fishing and Meeting Marine Life Fill Up Your Second Day In the Florida Keys

The early bird gets the worm, and that’s certainly true here in Islamorada, considered the sport fishing capital of the world. You don’t need to go out on a charter to cast a line here.
Rather, make your way to Bud ’n Mary’s and go out on the bridges-turned-fishing piers that run all the way down to Key West. The waters that run under the bridges are deep channels through which all types of fish swim through. Go on, try and catch the big one!
Tip: Bud ’n Mary’s rents fishing rods, and sells fishing permits, and frozen and live bait for your line.

After fishing for an hour or so, it's time for brunch! Just five minutes down the road is Midway Cafe & Coffee Bar, a locals' favorite spot to stop and fuel up for the day. The breakfast burrito and egg pita will surely fill you up, or order a smoothie and grab a pastry to-go.

This afternoon it’s time to get wild in Marathon. Your first stop is Florida Keys Aquarium Encounters, a fantastic place to see a lot of what lives under the sea, including fish, sharks, moray eels, seahorses, sea turtles, and much more. The aquarium’s interactive, educational exhibits make it fun for the entire family.

Travel a bit further south to the Turtle Hospital, the first licensed veterinary hospital dedicated to the treatment of sea turtles in the world. The dedicated staff and volunteers at the hospital rescue, treat, rehabilitate, and (hopefully) eventually release injured sea turtles back into the wild. The work that they do is inspiring, and a visit to the hospital is an incredible way to get up close and personal with these magnificent creatures.

Right around the corner from the Turtle Hospital is the Faro Blanco Resort & Yacht Club, your home for the night.
The waterfront hotel is a terrific place to recharge after a full day in Islamorada and Marathon: take a dip in the pool, watch the sun set, and cozy up in your comfortable guest room for a good night’s sleep.

After freshening up at the hotel, dinner tonight is less than a mile away at Castaway, a casual waterfront restaurant and sushi bar with a menu that will tempt the tastebuds.
Select from entrees like shrimp Alfredo, chicken enchiladas, steaks, pot roast, and salads. Or, if you’re in the mood for sushi, go for a boat for one, including 22 pieces of sushi and sashimi, as well as miso soup or ginger salad.
