    Discover the Rio Tinto Mining Park

    This first day will mix history, nature and the adventure of travelling by train between the mines.
    The itinerary proposes a visit to all the attractions of the Rio Tinto Mining Park. There are five in total and it is estimated to take just over six hours (including museum, mines and a ride on a tourist train). During this time, you must also add the time for lunch.
    The whole family will delve into the history of the mines in this area, exploited by the British Rio Tinto Company Ltd between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century.
    Ready? Bring water, snacks, sandwiches, fruit and all the elements to protect the family from the sun.

    The first stop is the Rio Tinto Mining Museum, where tickets purchased online are presented and information is provided.
    On the excursion through the mining park you can choose to visit some or all of the sites. The full ticket includes five sites:
    Mining Museum (in the town of Río Tinto). On this museum you can learn about the mining history of the area and the evolution of the techniques used.
    This can be visited at any time of the day, between the other activities. In this itinerary it is proposed to see it at the beginning of the trip. You can stay a few minutes and come back later. Open Hours: Monday - Sunday: 10:30 - 15:00, 16:00 - 19:00.
    House 21 (Casa 21) It is a house built in 1885 in the English neighbourhood of Bella Vista, the neighbourhood where the directors of the English company that exploited the mine lived. You can learn how they lived and what they hobbies were. It can also be visited at any time of the day. It is suggested to do it at the end of the tour. Open Hours: Monday - Sunday: 16:30 - 1830

    The Peña de Hierro Mine is located 10 km from the town of Riotinto. There, you can learn about the workings of this deposit and walk through a 200-metre gallery to a viewpoint. From there you can see incredible mining landscapes and the source of the Tinto river.
    Open Hours: Monday - Sunday Visits are at 11:30, 12:00, 12:30, 13:30.
    When you buy your ticket on the website you select a timetable. You must be there 10 minutes before the selected time. If you follow this itinerary, the best time is the first one, to go after the first quick visit to the museum.

    The train ride will be the most attractive for the children. The round trip is 22 km long and runs along the Tinto River. Along the way you will see the old mining areas and the railway installations.
    A stop is made at the Estación de los Frailes to go down to the water of the river and see its red colour up close.
    The train timetable is 13:30 (there may be a different option when you buy your ticket on the website and you have to be at Talleres Mina station about 15-20 minutes before departure.
    The total ride lasts an hour and a half.
    As the train schedule overlaps with lunch, you can eat the snacks/sandwiches you brought with you.
