Château du Haut-Kœnigsbourg
The Hapsburg family built Château du Haut-Kœnigsbourg in the Middle Ages to keep an eye on the wine and wheat routes to the north, as well as the silver and salt routes from west to east. During the Thirty Years' War, the Swedish army devastated the château-fort. It was later restored in 1899 as a symbol of Germany retaking Alsace from the French.
Murals, antediluvian furnishings, cast-iron stoves, and medieval weaponry and furniture may be found within the castle.
The tall tower offers panoramic views over both Germany and France. You can identify the Black Forest in Germany and the nearby French town Orschwiller town and the Vosges Mountains.
Château du Haut-Kœnigsbourg is open on Mondays between 10.30 am and 5.45 pm and every other day of the week between 9.15 am to 5.45 pm.

Sanctuaire du Mont Sainte Odile
The spiritually oriented, but also archeology and nature lovers will like Mont Sainte-Odile: it’s located in the Alsace region of France, high in the highlands of the Vosges Mountains.
The story says Odile, the daughter of the Duke of Alsace, was born blind, but she regained her sight after Saint Erhard of Regensburg baptized her, restoring her sight. Her father attempted to marry her off, but she fled from him into the mountains. To protect her, a cliff opened up, and, in the end, her father consented to build her Monastery in this location.
The Monastery was founded in the early seventh century, although it has been destroyed and rebuilt several times since then. Long before that, though, the Celtic tribes, who colonized the region from around 1000 BC, constructed a 10-kilometer mur païe (pagan wall) of stones, grottoes, and megalithic walls that stretch all the way to Klingenthal and Ottrott.
While you’re here, visit Sainte-Odile’s tomb, the Chapel of Tears, and the Chapel of Angels. The cliff-faced exterior wall of the cloister provides breathtaking views of the monastery. And, from a height of 765 meters, this viewpoint overlooks the whole Alsace corridor.
A network of defined paths in the surrounding woodland provides opportunities for wonderful wandering, such as a 5-minute return walk to the Grotte de Lourdes or a 20-minute return walk to the Source Sainte-Odile.
Sanctuaire du Mont Saint-Odile is open daily between 8 am to 9 pm. However, the chapels close at 7 pm.
