Beach, Hike and Fortress

Drive along Lake Balaton on the scenic route and go until Revfülop. It is a nice small village on the North shore of the lake. You can park your car pretty close by to this tower and you can reach the tower with an easy hike. From the top of the tower, you will get great views of the lake. A great and active way to start the day.

After this small hike, you can enjoy the beach and swim in the lake for a refreshing moment, especially in summer when it is really hot. This beach is organized with everything for your convenience like toilets, sunbeds, sunshades and even attractions like water toboggans. Kids will love it for sure.

Have lunch at this great restaurant with an amazing view on the lake. It is the highest restaurant in Badacsony and will offer a great panorama but also great food. You can order Hungarian classic dishes with Badacsony wine. You can also do wine testing. The 18th century building with baroque style was the press house of Sandor Kisfaludy, a famous Hungarian poet.

Here is the departure point for a very nice hike while visiting Lake Balaton. You will hike up to the summit of Badacsony mount which rises at 437 meters, it should take you between two and three hours round trip. It is a very nice pretty easy walk with well marked paths but I also recommend to use an app like maps.me to see the walking trails better and not to get lost. At the top, there is a wooden viewing tower where you can go and see an amazing panorama of Lake Balaton. There is also a big white cross with great views as well.
Take plenty of water with you and some snacks as there is nothing on sale up there. Wear comfortable good walking shoes.

Szigliget is a small village with a medieval fortress partly in ruins. It is a very interesting site to visit with exhibits about the Middle Ages inside. And the fortress located on a hill offers amazing views of the surroundings with the lake and the Badacsony mount where you just hiked, as well as the mountains of Tapolca in the North. The castle has a history of 750 years and it is the only one that never had the Ottoman Empire insignia during Ottoman Empire occupation.

You are now in Heviz, a small town located 8 kilometers North West of Keszthely. You are here to visit the thermal lake tomorrow but the center of the village is also very nice to walk around, cute and well maintained. Check out this church which is quite different and interesting also inside. There is a nice square with fountain and some parks. A nice place to enjoy s stroll before having dinner.

You can have dinner at this nice restaurant right in the center of Heviz, five minutes walk from your hotel only. They have lots of different options for dishes and the ice cream is pretty good.
