Active adventures at Lookout Mountain

Enjoy breakfast at your inn or grab a coffee from the Starbucks located at the top of Lookout Mountain. When you drive to the summit, you will park outside its biggest attraction: Rock City. Spend the next couple of hours discovering the geological gardens filled with waterfalls, wildflowers, and art. Walk through quiet woodland gardens, ancient rock formations, and a suspended bridge. There’s a cafe and restaurant onsite where you can enjoy a lunch break before you make your way underground to colorful displays of classic childhood fairy tales at Fairyland Caverns and Mother Goose Village (also inside the gardens).

If you didn't eat enough at Rock City, your next stop has plenty of options for lunch and brunch. Head to Warehouse Row, one of the city’s finest shopping destinations that is housed in two warehouses dating back to the Civil War.
Eat at Public House, an upscale Southern bistro that takes fried chicken to new heights, or at Tupelo Honey Cafe, which offers transformed Southern dishes like Appalachian egg rolls.
Warehouse Row hosts Street Food Thursday, where food trucks park between the two buildings. On Friday you can catch them at nearby Miller Plaza, about a five-minute walk away.

After lunch, stroll through The Hunter Museum of American Art, housed in three buildings perched on 80-foot cliffs above the Tennessee River. Here, you can see American art from the likes of Winslow Homer, Mary Cassatt, and Thomas Cole. Stroll through the nationally acclaimed River Gallery Sculpture Garden that has over 20 sculptures recognized by the Smithsonian in its Archive of American Gardens.

Your next stop is a natural landmark that is home to the tallest and deepest underground waterfall open to the public in the United States! You will see sweeping views of the Cumberland Plateau, soar on zip lines, and descend 26 stories by elevator into the caverns hidden deep within Lookout Mountain. Then continue to explore on foot with guided tours along the scenic path to the breathtaking waterfall.
Kids and adult learners will find the cave’s history, geological stalagmites, stalactites, drapery formations, flowstone and the waterfall light show fascinating!

Enjoy your happy hour with a one-hour guided distillery tour at Chattanooga Whiskey’s Experimental Distillery. You have options to sign up for a “Traditional Tour & Tasting” or a “Whiskey Flight Tasting,” both of which offer a chance to learn about the distillery's history and craft production process, and sample award-winning whiskeys.

After all that adventure in and around Chattanooga, it is time to sit down and relax with a nice dinner at Alleia. This Tuscan-inspired establishment uses all seasonal and local ingredients.
