Discover the Birthplace and History of America's First Female Aviator

Step back in time when you visit the home of Amelia Earhart, the most famous female pilot and aviator in America.
The first woman to attempt a circumnavigation of the world in an airplane, Earhart and her navigator tragically went missing somewhere over the Pacific. The disappearance remains one of the greatest mysteries to this day.
Her museum is dedicated to honoring the pilot and also to "recognize the contributions women have made in aeronautics".

Atchison is steeped in history and the Cray Historical Home Museum is a fine place to experience and see what life on these plains looked like for the early frontiersmen and settlers who acquired great wealth.
W.W. Hetherington, founder of the Exchange National Bank of Atchison, built the 1892 mansion with no expense spared. A classic piece of Victorian opulence, the home was modeled after a beloved Scottish castle by Mrs. Hetherington.
The entire first floor features furniture made in Europe and transported back to Kansas just for the Hetherington family.

This 1880 railroad depot, nominated one of the “Historic Railroad Resources of Kansas” is a focal point of this town as all trade came through here during the glory days of the railways.
This station was the beginning of the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad lines that connected the eastern part of the USA to the new "wild west" territories and states.
Donation-based, it's worth it to stop in and see the fine collection to preserve the past.
If you're traveling with kids or kids-at-heart, there's a mini train you can take a ride on for kicks.
