Boothbay to Bar Harbor/Acadia National Park

    Langlais Art Preserve

Just before you arrive in Rockland, veer into Cushing to encounter the Langlais Sculpture Preserve. Artist Bernard “Blackie” Langlais turned his 90-acre homestead into a roadside attraction brimming with outdoor sculptures, carvings, and “wood paintings.” A quarter-mile accessible path snakes through the sculptures, while birds flit in and out of the native plant gardens. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated.

    Camden Amphitheater

Grab a picnic lunch from any of Camden’s downtown eateries (The Camden Deli and Mixed Greens are both nearby favorites) and set up on the lawn of the Camden Ampitheater/Harborfront Park. This tranquil space outside the Camden Public Library delivers excellent views of the Megunticook River, and guests can find plenty of seating on stone walls and steps.

    Mount Battie

Hike or drive to the top of Mount Battie, where a stone tower serves up sprawling views of boats bobbing in Camden Harbor and distant islands rising from the haze of Penobscot Bay. The hike is an easygoing one-mile trail starting from Megunticook street in downtown Camden. If you prefer to drive, enter Camden Hills State Park on Route 1 just north of Camden and follow Mt. Battie road to the summit.

Mainely Meat Barbeque At Atlantic Brewing Company

Tomorrow’s a big day! Stock up on calories at Mainely Meat BBQ, one of Mount Desert Island’s most beloved carnivore hangouts. The restaurant shares a space with Atlantic Brewing Company, so there are plenty of fresh pours on tap to pair with a pulled pork sandwich or a smoked sausage. Seating is available indoors at the tavern or outdoors in an airy courtyard.
Mainley Meat BBQ is open 11:00 - 19:00 Tuesday - Sunday. Closed Mondays.

    Blackwoods Campground

Embrace the full Acadia experience by camping out in one of the National Park’s two campgrounds. Blackwoods Campground, on the western lobe of the island, is closest to most of the park’s highlights. Plus, it’s right on the water for easy-access views. Spots do fill quickly, so make a reservation in advance.
