Explore the Ancient City and Taste the Olive Oil

The City of Carmona is a small city that reached its splendor in Roman times. Therefore, one of its main attractions is the Archaeological Complex of Carmona.
You can visit it before having lunch and walk around the rest of the city. The visit can be done on your own or with a guide.
Among the places to visit are the necropolis and the amphitheater.

As Carmona is a small town with narrow streets, it's recommended to park your car in this ample car park and explore all the main attractions on foot.

It's time for lunch. Drive to the Molino de la Romera restaurant and park there. Then, you will be close to the places to visit on foot.
It is not the cheapest place, but it has a very cozy atmosphere and good food. It has a terrace with a viewpoint and a fireplace in winter. Not forget to taste the desserts!
The restaurant is recommended in the Michelin guide, so making a reservation is recommended.
If you prefer another place to eat, you can park the car near Alcázar de la Puerta de Sevilla (the next stop) and choose some tapas bars in the area, like La tasquita del inglés or Casa Paco.

After lunch, the proposal is to walk around some of the most touristic places of the city: palaces, towers and churches.
You can start at the Alcázar de la Puerta de Sevilla and from there walk around the rest.
The Gate of Seville fortress is one of the most emblematic elements of the rich architectural heritage that Carmona boasts. The Alcazar is the remains of a bastion with traces of Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Romans, Arabs and Christians.

After the visit to the Alcazaba, follow the route through the historic center and arrive at the Plaza de San Fernando. This square is circular and around it, you can see the beautiful facade of the Mudejar house and other traditional houses.
Also, you can take a look at the Town Hall building and the Madre de Dios Convent of Carmona.

The city of Carmona is characterized by having several houses that were ancient palaces. One of the most important is the House-palace of the Marquis of Torres de la Pressa (current City Museum).
At the museum you can know the history of Carmona from its origins and see archaeological remains from the Palaeolithic, Chalcolithic, Turdetan or Andalusian periods, but the most important are the Tartessian and Roman remain.
If you prefer not to visit the museum, you can take a brief look at the house. After the museum, as you walk through the city you will see other palace houses such as the Aguilar family and the Rueda family.

On the way to the houses-palaces, you can see the Church of Santa María, one of the most important in Carmona. It was built on the site of the old main mosque, of which the ablutions courtyard is still preserved.
If you are during visiting hours, it is worth looking inside and exploring its details.

Return to the car park to continue your journey to slightly more remote parts of the city by car.

At this time, you may want to have a snack (merienda). You can go get the car and go to Café San Pedro, a traditional café in the city where good cakes are served, such as torta inglesa (English cake).
If it is closed, you can walk to Heladería cafetería No Ni Ná for something sweet.

To finish the route through the city, you can see two of the city gates: the Puerta de Córdoba and the Puerta de Marchena.
The Cordoba Gate (Puerta de Córdoba) was built in the 1st century AD and had several modifications over time.

Currently, the Merchena gate is the entrance to the hotel, Parador Carmona. You can take a picture and continue your journey.

A few meters from the previous stop, you can stop for a few minutes at the Mirador Carmona to appreciate the landscape of the valley and take pictures.
If you like, you can go by car to the viewpoint on the other side of the town called Mirador Cueva de la Batida and spend a few minutes there before returning back.

A good idea is to stop on the way back for dinner. One option is on Venta Los Nietos, a typical roadside restaurant where they serve generous portions. You can choose meat, fish and several entrées.
