A Welsh History of Mining and Merchants

Wales' mining heritage has even left its mark on the coastline. Blue lagoon is a former slate mine quarry and the slate gives the water its bright turquoise colour. As you wander the clifftop, you'll see old mining buildings such as cottages for the workers and the foreman's house.

Street parking is very limited in Tenby, so it's best to leave your car here and see the sights on foot.

Once you arrive at Tenby, head to the Tudor Merchant's House. The interior has been recently reworked to show the house as it would have been decorated and furnished in the 1500s, when Tenby was at its prime. The merchant made a good living selling products such as wool, sea coal, vinegar and spices from the shopfront, and in other parts of the house you can see how his family would have lived .

Enjoy a hearty yet wholesome lunch at Caffè Vista, which has a balcony with gorgeous views of the beach. Some of the items on the menu are ciabatta toasties, salads, pies and lasagna.

Head out to Castle Hill to visit Tenby Museum and Art Gallery. At this small museum, you can learn about Tenby's maritime history, as well as view their collection of fine art.

Spend the late afternoon hanging out at Tenby North Beach. This popular golden beach has a striking rock formation, called Goskar Rock, in the middle of the sand. The beach is sheltered between the harbour and north cliffs.

Tap & Tân is a bar and restaurant run as a collaboration by Tenby Brewing Co and Feast Pembrokeshire. Tenby Brewing Co have been independent craft beer brewers since 2015 and you can sample their wares at at Tap & Tân. When you start to feel peckish, there's live fire cookery and barbecued food on the menu.
