St. Petersburg - Shlisselburg - Old Ladoga

The Koltush Parish of St. Righteous John of Kronstadt is an heir to the ancient Peter and Paul Parish. The decision to build a wooden church here was made in 1733. Two years later the church was consecrated in the name of the Apostles Peter and Paul. In the early XIX century it was allowed to build a new stone church. Stone Peter and Paul Church in Koltushi was built in the style of late classicism.

The hermitage is located on the "Road of Death", along which soldiers during the Great Patriotic War went to the crossing, and was founded in memory of the fallen. The main church of the hermitage is the Church of St. Zosima and Savvaty of Solovki. Near it stands the Church of St. Eugene, built in the best traditions of northern wooden architecture.

You thought Red Square was only in Moscow? No, Shlisselburg has one too. It is the heart of the city. The architectural ensemble of the square: Annunciation Cathedral of the first half of the XVIII century, which is now under reconstruction, the Kazan Chapel of the XIX century and St. Nicholas Church of the XIX century. In the other part of the square, on the opposite side of the Staroladozhsky channel, there is a small square.

Kobona is an old fishing village on the shore of Lake Ladoga. The first wooden five-domed St. Nicholas Church appeared in Kobon in the middle of the XVIII century, but at the beginning of the XIX century it was badly damaged by a fire. However, in 1821 it was restored, but already in stone.
In the church the srebropozladen cross are of interest, the offering of Earls Musin-Pushkin, and the remains of pewter sacred vessels, found in the 30s by a peasant woman in the well, among the fields. On the site of the find a wooden chapel was built by priest Alekseyev.

The first mention of the cathedral dates back to 1276, at that time it was still wooden, in the XVII century the cathedral acquired the look that we can observe now. With one exception: at the end of the XX century it underwent restoration.
The now existing church was put up with a deep artistic understanding of the unity of architecture and nature.
The temple is open daily from 09:00 to 17:00.

The monastery is situated in a very picturesque place on the bank of the Volkhov river near Rurik fortress of Old Ladoga. The monastery was built around already existing by that time Nikolskiy Cathedral (the building of XII century). The first documentary evidence of the monastery dates back to the end of the XV century.
The main structure of the architectural ensemble is the temple of St. John Chrysostom, arranged on the principle of the ancient basilica. The temple was built by the architect Alexei Maksimovich Gornostayev in 1860-1873. On the vaults, walls and arches of the temple are preserved paintings: scenes from the life of St. John Chrysostom, evangelic scenes in the style of academic realism, ornaments in Byzantine style.
The monastery is open daily from 08:00 to 18:00.
