Unleash your Inner Child with Magdeburg's Wonderful Attractions

Now it is time for day 3, the final part of this whirlwind tour around central Germany. Last, but most definitely not least, is the city of Magdeburg. The capital of the Saxony district boasts of great excursions and we've chosen the best of the best. First of all, soak in the incredible architecture of the Green Citadel, before enjoying the area's greatest steaks or salad buffet in Bralo House. Then it's off to wander and wonder at the Jahrtausendturm museum before making the drive back to Hamburg, stopping off at Brunswick for a delightful dinner.

    Hundertwasser's Green Citadel of Magdeburg

The Green Citadel, or Gruene Zitadelle, is a masterpiece of modern architecture by the renowned Hundertwasser who describes it as “oasis for humanity and nature in a sea of rational houses”. Despite the hyperbole, he's not lying. The magical building that looks like a castle underwater, is called 'green' due to the large amount of vegetation surrounding this structure and must be seen to be believed. In modern times, the Green Citadel is used as shops, a cafe, a restaurant, a theatre and a kindergarten school among other things. Take photos as you take in this interesting structure, before going inside and exploring its contents.
Open Hours: Monday - Sunday: 8:00 AM – 10:00 PM

    Bralo House

Now it's time for lunch! Whether you're a ravenous carnivore or a salad-loving vegetarian you will love Bralo House. It has the best steaks in Magdeburg (and is in the conversation for best outside of Berlin), but also provides an exquisite salad buffet.
Open Hours: Monday - Saturday: 12:00 – 11:00 PM Sunday: Closed

    Jahrtausendturm

This is one of Magdeburg's most popular attractions and cannot be missed. Inside the beautiful Elbauenpark, full of lovely apple trees, is the Jahrtausendturm, one of the tallest wooden tours in the world. Inside is a joyous array of contraptions, museum features and interactive historical exhibitions. It is essentially a hands-on museum, but really it's so much more. Whether you're 14 or 45 you will have a blast here, learning about cultural history and science through games and devices. A true one of its kind, this tower will teach and entertain you in droves.
Open Hours: Monday - Sunday: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM

When passing through Brunswick, we recommend getting dinner in this lovely German bar and diner. Here classic German meals like weiß, Wurst, Braunschweiger, Grünkohl are served. Their fillet "Hausfrauen" is especially recommended. It's 3 cured herrings fillet served with dried potatoes and Tartar sauce.
