Medieval city

Start your day with breakfast at the small and cozy bakery and pastry shop, which is located in the very building of the Vyborg City Hall. Here they serve delicious coffee, cheesecakes and offer a huge variety of cakes and pastries.

Vyborg Castle is undoubtedly the main attraction of the city and one of the few surviving medieval castles in Russia. It was founded in 1293 during the Third Swedish Crusade. Now located in the castle is the Vyborg Museum of Local Lore and several exhibitions, constantly held concerts, festivals and knightly tournaments. Entrance to the castle is free. In museums and at exhibitions entrance fee is paid. It is possible to order guided tours.

St. Olaf's Tower - the main tower of the castle and a common symbol of Vyborg. The height above sea level is 75 meters. At the base of the dome is an observation deck, which can be climbed as part of a tour group. From there you can see a breathtaking panorama of the city.

After visiting Vyborg Castle, return to the city. Stroll through the old cobblestone streets and continue on to the historic sites that abound in the city. The Clock Tower is the former bell tower of the old cathedral, erected in the late 15th century. The cathedral was destroyed by a bomb attack in 1940, but the tower miraculously survived and has recently been restored. Surprisingly, more than 150 years later, the clock still works.

The name of this landmark, also known as the "Citizen's House", speaks for itself. According to preliminary estimates, the house was built in the 16th century, that is, it is more than 400 years old. Today, the oldest house in Russia, located at 13A, Krepostnaya Street, has two residential apartments.

You can have lunch on the same street in the cafe with the same name. Here you can enjoy Russian cuisine: homemade delicious draniki, solyanka, pelmeni.

The 16th-century building originally housed a Franciscan monastery school, then a merchant's house, and at the end of the 18th century it was converted to a Catholic chapel for the parish of St. Hyacinth. Nowadays it houses an art gallery.

In this monument of medieval architecture today is a tourist information center with a museum exhibition, as well as a souvenir shop with handmade products.

In 1470-1475 a stone wall with the length of about 2 km was built around the houses of Vyborg. The Town Hall Tower is one of the two surviving combat towers of this wall. (The second one is the Round Tower on the Market Square). After the city grew and the tower lost its military significance, it was transferred to the town hall.

In 2018, a monument to the Vyborg streetcar, which ran through the city from 1912 to 1957, was installed. This life-size model, decorated with sculptures of a conductor and a stowaway boy, now operates as a mini coffee shop, beloved by many. Everyone can go inside for a fresh cup of coffee.

Through the cozy streets of Vyborg return to the hotel, pick up your things, it's time to go home.
