When you feel your stomach rumbling again, turn around for a 25-minute stroll back to King Edward’s Bay. There you’ll find a true north-eastern treasure at the base of the cove, perched on the shore.

Riley's Fish Shack
Restaurant
Open Details
Riley’s Fish Shack began life as a street food stall at the annual Tyneside food festival in May 2012. By 2016, its semi-permanent steel shipping container was being described by the Observer’s renowned food critic Jay Rayner as the eating experience of the year.
It serves seafood freshly caught that morning, from the sea that laps at its entrance. The restaurant is open all year round but with limited covered seating, you don’t need me to tell you that you'll need to wrap up if planning to visit outside of summertime. It is the north-east after all.
The menu varies depending on the day’s catch but if you see the monkfish kebab, don’t delay! It’s walk-ins only but summer deckchair bookings can be made via their website.
