Rybinsk HPP, museums of unique machinery and hydropower engineering

From Yaroslavl to Rybinsk it's almost 2 hours drive. To visit all the sights on the list, leave no later than 8 a.m.

So, you are in Rybinsk! Save your walks through the historical part of the city for later. Since you are here for the legendary hydroelectric complex. The capacity of this old hydro power plant is not big: only 356 MW. Most Moscow TPPs are many times more powerful, but the design is impressive.
It is difficult to get into the main building of HPP (only by invitation), but you can always admire it from the side. Keep in mind that stopping along the entire "Rybinsk ring" is forbidden (although some do find small exits), as is taking photos and videos.

Next on the way you'll meet the Volga shaft of Rybinsk hydroelectric power station, which is considered to be an architectural masterpiece of Stalin's hydro-construction. And on your right hand will be a 28-meter sculpture "Mother Volga". You can't drive up to the monument, so traditionally admire it from the car window.

Do you want to know how the first jet passenger aircraft in the USSR and continental Europe looked like? Then make a stop on Motorostroiteley Street: here there is a monument to the Tu-104A aircraft. Be sure to climb the steps to the pedestal to look at the plane from below. When else will you have such an opportunity!

You can finish your trip along the "Rybinsk ring" at the monument to the poet Lev Oshanin. Firstly, now you know who wrote the lyrics of the songs "The Volga flows" and "Eh, roads". Secondly, the best view of the six-span Rybinsk bridge, another architectural gem of the city, can be seen from here.

The next point of the route is the town of Myshkin. You can refresh yourself and regain your strength in the most famous restaurant "Myshelovka". Mushrooms of all kinds, wild boar cutlets, assorted dumplings, nalivkas and kvass - lunch here may be an occasion for a separate trip. And another nice touch: the waiter brings free cheese to every visitor. That's right, because you are in the Mousetrap!

Have you ever seen a steam locomotive or a sausage machine? If not, then hurry to the museum "Myshkin Samohod", which will delight you with a great collection of old machinery. And if you want to see vintage cars in action, plan a trip to the festival of the same name in August (schedule check city website).
And don't be lazy to book an excursion to the forge at the museum in advance. You will see here simple metal items being transformed into a work of art. It is a miracle, no otherwise.

After Rybinsk you probably still have questions related to hydropower. You will find the answers to them in the museum at Uglich Hydroelectric Power Plant. Tourists are not allowed on the station itself, but even without that the tour turns out informative and fun. Tours for individual guests are carried out at 11:00, 14:00 and 16:00 from Tuesday to Sunday, you don't need to make an appointment in advance. And after the tour, be sure to walk around the museum grounds and take spectacular selfies with one of the power plant propellers.

It is impossible to leave a trip like this without a souvenir. If you want to find something really interesting, hurry to Victory Park. Here, among the endless painted plates and birch-bark chests, you'll find treasures from local antique dealers: Soviet badges and posters, postcards, and rare clocks.

There are many excellent restaurants in Uglich, but the audience prize invariably goes to an establishment called "Brunch". Try here a warm salad on a flatbread, dumplings with salmon, quail with creamed spinach and mushroom caviar. And for dessert, a lovely homemade cottage cheese curd. It seems to be the best option to finish your cognitive journey!
