Gasthaus Im Stiefel
Having built up an appetite taking in Bonn's finest historical buildings, it's time to enjoy the city's finest cuisine.
The wonderfully-decorated interiors of this fantastic restaurant would be worth a visit alone, but it also offers traditional German fare at reasonable prices.
Its weekday 'lunch hits' offers one dish every day for under €10, during lunchtime. A typical example would see Viennese-style port schnitzel served on Monday, chicken breast in creamy mushroom sauce served the next day, and fried meatloaf with mashed potatoes served on Wednesday. There is also a wealth of options on the a la carte menu. Try the house speciality, Beethoven’s Laiberl, a potato soup with slices of German salami and bacon in a loaf of bread.
It's a big place, so walk-ins are the norm, but if you'd rather book you can find the number to call on their website.

Altes Rathaus Bonn
Walk to Bonn's Marktplatz (Market Square) to be transported to the 18th century. Its elegant Altes Rathaus town hall is a picture-perfect example of Rococo architecture.
At the square's centre stands the Marktfontaine, a fountain that had its hat knocked off (never to be replaced) by Napoleon's soldiers during the French occupation.
Living up to its name, this square is also where you'll find a market.

Rheinaue Park
Given the time you've spent under the roofs of Bonn's best museums, it's a good idea to set aside some time to stroll the tranquil surrounds of Freizeitpark.
Created for the National Horticultural Show in 1979, the 160 hectares of gardens here are immaculate and the boating lake, with its six bridges, makes it perfect for a late afternoon stroll.
There are several car park options that make it easy to ditch the car nearby, including the Parkplatz Rheinaue.

HARIBO Factory Outlet
Don't tell your dentist, but Bonn is the home of Haribo. Its name is derived from the name of its creator, Hans Riegel, and the city itself, Bonn. In 1922, the company created the first gummy candy and called it Gummibärchen (gummy bears). The rest, as they say, is juicy, chewy, history.
Kids and adults love it so, so make sure you grab a bagful as the perfect souvenir (that'll you do well not to scoff all the way home!).
