From Strasbourg via the Hochschwarzwald Road to Sasbachwalden, Hohenzollern Castle and Tübingen

The Black Forest High Road is one of the most popular road trip routes in Germany. On the 60-kilometer-long route, you will always catch magnificent views of the Black Forest valleys. From here, you can also see into the Rhine Valley and Alsace as far as the Vosges Mountains.

About halfway along the Black Forest High Road, you'll turn into the idyllic town of Sasbachwalden. Here you can park your car before setting off on a short hike.

From the parking lot, it takes about 20 minutes to walk through the vineyards to Badner Bänkl. From here you have a wonderful view of Sasbachwalden and the Black Forest. Remember to take something to drink for the short hike.

After the descent it is time for lunch. The restaurant at the Hotel Spinnerhof offers typical regional dishes. For dessert, you should definitely try a piece of Black Forest cake, which is not only incredibly delicious here, but also extremely large.

In Sasbachwalden there are several schnapps fountains. Here you can fill a bottle with genuine Black Forest schnapps yourself for a small fee. A great souvenir and memory of your trip.

You shouldn't drink the schnapps until later, because now it's back to the car, continuing on the Schwarzwaldhochstraße in the direction of Hechingen.

Park your car now in one of the official parking lots of Hohenzollern Castle. You can either walk up to the castle or take one of the bus shuttles.

Not quite as well known as the fairytale castle Neuschwanstein is the castle Hohenzollern and thus still almost an insider tip. It is the ancestral seat of the House of Hohenzollern and has served as the family's temporary residence for over 1000 years. Tickets for a tour are best bought online in advance. Tours always begin on the hour.

Back at the car, we now continue to Tübingen.

When you arrive in Tübingen, it is best to park your car in the Neckar parking garage. From here you can quickly and easily walk into the old town.

The Neckar Island in Tübingen with its avenue of plane trees is perfect for a relaxing walk. From here you also have a fabulous view of Tübingen's old town with its picturesque houses. Also keep an eye out for the Stocherkähnen, which are gondolas typical of Tübingen, on which you can relax along the Neckar, similar to Venice.

The poet Friedrich Hölderlin was just one of the many famous German poets, writers and philosophers who once lived in Tübingen. He spent the second half of his life here, in the Hölderlin Tower named after him. Every 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month there is also a public guided tour of the permanent exhibition here at 15:00, which gives an insight into Hölderlin's life in the tower.

Through the old town via the Holzmarkt you reach Tübingen's market square with its imposing town hall. In summer, the students of the university town sit here around the market fountain and enjoy the summer nights with wine and beer.

To conclude your four-day journey through four countries, we recommend a dinner at the Neckarmüller brewery. In the beer garden you have a fabulous view of the Neckar and are served regional delicacies.

After dinner you will return to the car and then back to Stuttgart, where your trip ends.
