San Juan Mountains Drive and Mesa Verde National Park

Stop for a hearty breakfast at The Butcher & The Baker. This local farm-to-table restaurant has an incredible seasonable breakfast with locally-sourced eggs, greens, and breads. Make sure you pick a few bakery items to go - you'll want them a snack later in the day as it's a while until lunch.

Today's adventure takes you driving through the San Juan mountains of Colorado down highway 145 to Cortez. You'll want to make sure you're plenty fed for the journey so that you can take plenty of stops to admire the scenery.

Stop for lunch at The Depot in Dolores, Colorado, which claims one of the best burgers in Colorado. You'll find a wide variety of options but you should definitely try the onion rings!

Mesa Verde National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage site for it's well-preserved cliff dwellings of the Ancestral Puebloans. Stop at the Visitors Center for the best idea of what to do in the park. The most common visited spot is the Cliff Palace, a 700-year old cliff dwelling that was home to around 125 people. You'll also find some great hiking options - Petroglyph Point Trail is a favorite.

Stop for a pint and a bite at the Mancos Brewing Company, located in downtown Mancos, Colorado, a town known for its high concentration of artists and creatives. You'll find an eclectic collection of beers on tap and food that locals rave about.
