Old Ladoga, Craftsmen's Sloboda, the road to Kargopol

Old Ladoga. The first capital of Northern Russia. Fortress on the bank of the Volkhov River, to which leads an overgrown and crumbling downhill. In one of the towers of the fortress is now a two-story museum. Interesting exposition and layout of the room plunges you into the Middle Ages.

The village of Staraya Sloboda. Amusing flowerbeds between the alleys and two-story houses for the servants of the monastery. The bell tower of the Transfiguration Cathedral rises. In Soviet times, a psychiatric hospital and an orphanage were located here. And later the space of the monastery was given for communal apartments.

A tourist spot on your route. The village was organized in the early 90s. All the buildings were moved here from the Vologda and Arkhangelsk regions. The houses are authentic, not restored.

It is believed that the first temple on this site was built in 1493. It was rebuilt several times. Century-old wooden architecture. Not regularly, but services are held.
