Encounter With the Iconic Mont Blanc

Wake up early today and head to the Cable car station "Compagnie du Mont Blanc" which will lead you at the top of the Aiguille du Midi.
Don't forget to book your ticket in advance on their website. Take the "Mont Blanc Multipass" which includes Aiguille du Midi cable car and Montenvers train to "Mer de Glace".

In just 20 minutes, the Aiguille du Midi cable car will take you from the centre of Chamonix to the heart of the Mont-Blanc, at 3.842 metres high. Aiguille du Midi translates litteraly to "Needle of the Mid-day". This is the closest point you can get to the summit of Mont-Blanc without climbing or hiking.
The viewing platform offers a breath-taking panoramic view across the French, Swiss and Italian Alps. Just in front of you, you will have the iconic Mont-Blanc, the highest peak in Europe which is 4.807 metres high.
If you are not scared of heights, step on the glass platform "Step into the Void". You will have more than a thousand metres of free air under your feet!

Take the cable car down to Chamonix. Be careful: during high season, you might have to queue before boarding.

Then it's time to live the second big adventure of the day! After going back down to the centre of Chamonix with the Aiguille du Midi cable car, head to Montenvers train station. There, you will board a charming cogwheel train to the famous "Mer de Glace" which means sea of ice, the largest glacier in France. The journey lasts around 20 minutes.

Once arrived after the train ride, take some time for lunch at this charming refuge style restaurant. You will need some energy before discovering the glacier.

Standing at an altitude of 1.913 metres, the Mer de Glace is sadly a true witness of the climate change of our time. It is no longer the outstanding glacier it used to be a few decades ago. But it remains an unforgettable experience.
You should go discover the ice cave. You can either follow the footpath for a 20-minutes walk or take the cable car. Pay a visit to the Glaciorium, an interactive exhibition about the evolution of the Mer de Glace, which testifies of global warming.

After your adventure on the Mer de Glace, take the Montenvers train back to Chamonix. Then reach the car park. Time to leave for another alpine destination!
