Spend time in Jekyll Island and St Simons

After breakfast and check out, drive along the coast to arrive in Jekyll Island Your first stop is Georgia’s only sea turtle education and rehabilitation facility where rehabilitation efforts aim to save all five threatened or endangered species of sea turtles that nest in Georgia. In the summer you can also take a guided sunrise and night walks to sea turtle nesting sites.

In the afternoon, rent bikes or tricycles and explore the 20 miles of picturesque paths and trails around Jekyll Island. The entire island is a State Park! Stop at the points of interest, sand dunes, beaches, and historic sites such as the Avenue of Palms, Green Posts, Plantation Oak, and Shell Road.

Take some photos of the natural scenery at Driftwood Beach. This is unlike other beaches you may have visited before as the driftwood trees form interesting shapes against the water currents. Find out why Driftwood Beach has consistently been voted one of America’s “Ten Most Romantic Beaches."

Next, drive over to the quaint town of St. Simons where you can visit one of the only five surviving light towers in Georgia. The museum has interesting exhibits that tell you the history of the area, as well as a fully restored keeper's home. If you climb the 129 steps to the top, you can see a panoramic view of the Golden Isles.

End your day with cocktails and food at a fun-filled neighborhood restaurant. Here you can taste classic Georgia dishes such as fried fish baskets, cheese grits, fried okra, and sweet potato fries. Hang out late if there's live music, typical on weekend evenings.
