Bohus Fortress & Tiveden National Park

Start the day off with a calm stop for coffee. Once you're more awake and filled with caffeine, begin heading towards the amazing Bohus Fortress, which has a natural moat. One of the sides of the fortress hangs high in the air on a 40 meter cliff. After you have had your fill of all the medeival activities offered there, start driving to the unforgettable Tiveden National Park. Here, there's around 34 kilometers of marked hiking trails through old growth and untouched wilderness. A day filled with outdoor adventures!

This is the second biggest city in lovely Sweden. You may hear this city being called "little London", which was given to the place from the donations that were from Englishmen and Scotsmen in the 1800s. The first resident of this city wasn't actually a swede, it was a dutchman!
So, let's explore its surroundings and hidden gems.

To get here, just start walking up the hill and in no time you'll be taking in this view. This path may be a little hard to recognize. But from the point where you parked, start heading up the little stoney hill with patches of nature.

Venture here with the whole family and take in the beauty of the water below. If you come here during the off season, it's free. But during the busy time, there's a fee. As I wandered the stonewalled fortress, the views were what left me breathless. Every direction was filled with an abundance of green. It felt untouched, as though I had been brought to the past before cars. If you love the time of knights and castles, then this is a place for you!

If you want, you can book a tour online. The open hours fluctuate by season. At the end of October - March, it's closed. So, depending on when you're travelling, this may not be open. Please check opening hours in advance.
If this is the case, then I suggest going to Utsiktsplatsen Fontin-Fästningsparken (The Fontin Fortress Park Viewpoint). Here, you can see the wonderful fortress and take in the beauty of nature surrounding you. It's open year round. The parking lot is very near this place and it's wheelchair accessible!

Once we stepped into this enchanting National Park, I was blown away by the wooden paths that led into an unforgettable place. It felt as though magic blew in the air. We walked to the glacier road with an interesting story and ventured deeper into the forest.
When you plan on hiking, check when the sun sets so that you don't end up trying to get back to your car when it's hard to see. But in Sweden in the summer, there's no worry. That's when you have sunlight up to 18 hours in the month of June.
