Vladimir-Suzdal Russia

Start the second day of the trip with a walk to the picturesque observation deck near the Church of Elijah the Prophet. It offers a good view of the winding course of the Kamenka River, the Suzdal Kremlin, and the Ilyinsky Meadow.
Ilyinsky meadow is an ornament of the city panorama. The reserve of state importance was formed to preserve the local vegetation and wildlife. The meadow covers the coastal territory of Kamenka. The framing of the green carpet is the historical monuments and temples of Suzdal.
The area is home to meadow animals and nesting birds. The second name of the meadow is Lebyazhy. From time to time migratory birds appear on the banks of the Suzdal river. In the area you can hear the cries of seagulls. It is impossible to imagine the meadow fauna without them. There are more than fifty species of permanent inhabitants.

The project of creating the Museum of Wooden Architecture and Peasant Life appeared in the 60s. It was authored by V.M. Anisimov, an employee of the restoration workshop. The museum was placed on the bank of the Kamenka River, in the outskirts of Suzdal, in the place of the earlier (XI century) Dimitriyevsky Monastery, which was not preserved. Before the revolution, there were a couple of churches here: Dimitriyevskaya (1773) with a bell tower from 1812 and the "warm" St. George church (1751).
Surviving wooden buildings: churches, huts, outbuildings were brought here from various villages of Suzdal region. The empty place on the high bank of the Kamenka river was again filled with creations of human hands.
The museum of wooden architecture in Suzdal is a village of its own, with a concentration of everything that survived from the XVIII-XIX centuries and was not burned in fires or taken apart for firewood or broken during the bad years. The streets of the village are made up of houses and buildings brought from the villages, and everything is dominated by the high domes of wooden churches and the wings of windmills.

In half a day you can not see all the attractions of the ancient city, so pay attention to the main ones.
The Suzdal Kremlin is the oldest structure in the city, which absorbed all its history, starting from Vladimir Monomakh. According to archeologists the Kremlin in Suzdal was built in X century. In spite of that all its main constructions except for defense walls and towers were preserved till our days. Suzdal Kremlin now works as a museum.
Carriage trip After a tour of the Kremlin, you can immediately use the carriage of your choice standing near the entrance and go for a horseback ride.
Suzdal at any time of the year allows you to see this city from a carriage or wagon. And a guide, accompanied by the unhurried clatter of hooves and the bell ringing of cathedrals and churches, will lead you through the quiet streets of the old city center and tell you about its history.

The historical center of Suzdal is a shopping square. On weekends and holidays, fairs are held here. In addition to local souvenirs, you can find specialty pickles and pies that you can take with you or eat on the spot.

Bogolyubovo is an ancient town in the Suzdal region on the bank of the Klyazma River, 14 kilometers from Vladimir. In the 12th century, it was the residence of Prince Andrei Bogolyubsky, and a century later a monastery was located there.
The white-stone Church of the Intercession on the Nerl is located on a picturesque meadow in a place where the Nerl river flows into the Klyazma. Different sources give different dates of building of the church. It is believed that the Church of the Intercession on the Nerl was built in 1165 by Prince Andrei Bogolyubsky in memory of his killed son during a campaign against the Bulgarian kingdom.
The place on which the church stands was chosen by Andrei Bogolyubsky himself. This church is considered to be the first in Russia to be dedicated to the feast of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
It is recommended to leave the car at the railway crossing near the Svyato-Bogolyubsky Monastery. From there begins the walking route. Use the horse-drawn carriage, which will be waiting for you near the railway crossing for a leisurely ride across the clear field to the church or ride it on the way back.
