Vic and the Medieval town of Besalu
On the first day of this 2-day itinerary, you'll head north from Barcelona towards Vic before looping around to the medieval gem, Besalú. You'll watch as the landscape changes from the arid Mediterranean scrub to mountains and lush forests as you near the Pyrenees, touring through an ancient volcanic area before reaching the wonderous architecture and ancient atmosphere of Besalú.

After you've parked your car, make the short stroll into the epicenter of Vic, where you'll find the impressive Plaça Major. This is actually the largest square in all of Catalonia - bigger even than Plaça Espana and Plaça Catalonia in Barcelona.
