Feast with the Vikings at Njardheimr in the Viking Valley

Begin your day with some filling grub at Ringheim Kafe in the valley of Voss. You'll find everything from chicken sandwiches, to salads, and homemade cake.

The highlight of your first day, and the perfect initiation into viking life, is a trip to Njardarheimr, which mean's the home of Njord (the North god). This "living museum" invites you to step back in time and see how these great seafarers once lived. Hear tales from the vikings themselves and try your hands at axe throwing and other viking-loved games. Guided tours run throughout the day and last for 45 minutes.
You'll have lunch here as well, at Vikingkroa, where you'll eat a feast fit for Valhalla. Try the Thor burger with chive aioli, jalapeños, and chorizo; lamb sausage from Voossakjøt with sauerkraut and homemade potatoes; and pork shark with local beer broth.
The village is right next to Nærøyfjorden too so you can easily have a quick walk and enjoy the view of this beautiful fjord.

After lunch, make the short drive over to Flåm where there's a quaint little beach that's perfect for a short walk to breathe in the fresh air and stare out at the vast Sognefjord in front of you.

After driving through the 24.5 km Laerdal tunnel, you'll come out the other side and be transported in time. Laerdal Old Town is a place where time has stood still--marvel at the colourful wooden houses that are a favourite of photographers.

You'll make a short detour towards the Utdal valley for a chance to stretch your legs. Head to Avdalsfossen (parking is available by the road and it's a 15-minute walk to the falls), which has a 165-metre drop and you may even get a nice mist from the falls to cool you off.

You won't even feel the hour-and-a-half drive because you'll be passing through the highest mountain pass in Northern Europe. Take a moment to jump out at a rest stop and enjoy the vast scenery that surrounds you. From craggy mountains to small lakes, it'll feel like you've landed in another world. You'll get a glimpse of the Jotunheimen National Park ("the home of the giants") and if you have time you could go for a nice hike as well.

Your destination for the evening is in the small village of Lom. The Fossheim Hotel is one of Norway's historic hotels, run by the same family since 1897. You'll have dinner at the on-site restaurant on this evening so that you can relax and rest up.
