Priozersk and the shore of Lake Ladoga

The most famous sight of Priozersk is a stone fortress Korela.
It was built by the Novgorodians as a defensive structure, protecting the borders from numerous attempts to capture the Swedes. It withstood 44 sieges, belonged to Sweden for a while, and only under Peter I returned, but after some time was conquered again.
In different periods the fortress served different functions, for example, in the XIX century it was a pre-trial detention facility, and after it was a shelter for the mentally ill.
According to a legend, the first prince of Rus died here in 879. In 2004, a memorial stone was erected near the fortress.
The museum was opened in the second half of XX century. Today, two types of tours are offered: guided tours of the museum and the fortress and tours only on the territory.
You can visit the fortress from Wednesday to Sunday.

The stone masonry of the kirk looks similar to the fortress walls of Korela, but this structure appeared much later - in the early 30s of the last century.
Once it was possible to hear organ music in Käkisalmi church. Today the building is empty, but still worth a visit. Take a walk around in search of interesting photo angles.
